Egyptian +18 popular puppet show Abla Fahita will be re-introduced in a new series produced for the world's leading streaming entertainment service Netflix in 2020.
"The series will follow the amazing adventures of Abla Fahita after becoming one of the leading stars in the Arab world. Her life turns upside down when she finds herself being chased by the law and society," read a statement published by Netflix.
"This will be Abla Fahita’s first attempt at acting in a scripted series, having entertained millions of audiences on television before.
"Abla Fahita’s debut on Netflix will be produced by OKWRD production in cooperation with ASAP Productions & EP Amin El-Masri.The show will shed light on the human side of Abla Fahita in a social comedy drama full of thrill."
Abla Fahita stated, “Down with this globalisation! I barely had enough time for my own show and now they want me to do a series. The only thing that made me consider their offer is that Netflix will release the series in more than 20 languages and it will be watched in 190 countries by more than 158 million viewers with their relatives worldwide."
Abla Fahita is the second Egyptian original series after Paranormal, a Mohamed Hefzy and Amr Salama production, starring Ahmed Amin. Paranormal is based on the best-selling book series in the Arab world by late author Ahmed Khaled Tawfik.
Starting originally on Youtube, Abla Fahita has gained a huge viewership through her successive seasons of the TV show Live from the Duplex broadcast on Egyptian CBC channel, and caused controversy with her sharp tongue and political comments.
Netflix, with over 158 million paid memberships in over 190 countries, provides a huge collection of TV series, documentaries and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages.
