Egypt's Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir inspected this morning construction work on the electric train project connecting the Salam, New Administrative Capital, and 10th of Ramadan cities, as well as the Adly Mansour transition station.

The project is being implemented by a group of Egyptian national companies under the supervision of a Chinese consortium.

The electric train that is currently under construction will be 70km long and has 12 stations: Adly Mansour, Al-Obour, Al-Mostakbal, Al-Shorouk, New Heliopolis, Badr, Industrial Zone, 10th of Ramadan, Al-Rubiki, New Badr, Administrative Capital 1 and Administrative Capital 2.

The project will connect Cairo, Qalioubiya and Sharqiya governorates with the New Administrative Capital.

The electric train will intersect with the third line of Cairo Metro in Adly Mansour transition station, and with the New Administrative Capital monorail in Administrative Capital Station 2.

It is set to carry around 60,000 passengers per hour at the speed of up to 120km per hour.

The Adly Mansour transition station is built on an area of 322,000 square metres and comprises 26 buildings.

The electric train project is financed through a loan from China that should be paid back over 20 years.

After it is completed, the project is expected to save Egypt EGP 2.3 billion ($130 million) in fuel subsidies and vehicle traffic.

It will also cut traffic by 30 percent on the highway connecting the capital with the Suez Canal at Ismailia port city, northeast of Cairo.
