The members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have begun voting for the final nominations for the 2020 Oscars, which will take place on 9 February.
The voting begins on 2 January and continues through 7 January, with results to be revealed on 13 January.
Five films by Arab filmmakers or revolving around the Arab region are in the shortlist announced by the Academy in December 2019.
Three films are shortlisted in the Live Action Short Film category for the 92nd Academy Awards: 23-minute drama Refugee, directed by Brandt Andersen; the 25-minute Brotherhood, directed by Meryam Joobeur; and the 17-minute Nefta Football Club, directed by Yves Piat.
A total of 191 films have been submitted to the Live Action Short Film category, with 10 making it to the shortlist.
Two films from Syria advanced to the shortlist in the Documentary Feature category: For Sama, directed by the first Syrian to win an International Emmy Award, Waad Al-Kateab, and Edward Watts; and The Cave by the first Oscar-nominated Syrian director, Feras Fayyad.
A total of 159 films have been submitted to the Documentary Feature category, with 15 making it to the shortlist.
