Chinese Consul General in Alexandria Chen Xiaoming said that Beijing and Cairo have identical or similar viewpoints on many major international and regional issues.
Hailing the fast-growing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, Chen added that the volume of Chinese investments in Egypt has reached about $7 billion.
Chen made the remarks on the sidelines of a press conference organised by the Chinese Consulate General in Alexandria on Thursday.
More than 1,560 Chinese companies are working in Egypt and providing over 30,000 job opportunities for Egyptians, he noted.
The total production value of the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone is estimated at about $1 billion, he said.
In press statements, he dismissed the recent news reports concerning allegations of discrimination and mistreatment of China’s Muslim Uyghurs. He said that such reports are part of a propaganda campaign against China that aims to damage the country’s relations with Egypt and the Arab and Islamic world.
Posts circulated on social media regarding this issue are fake, he said, adding that China has condemned such practices.
The Xinjiang issue is related to fighting terrorist and extremism effectively and has nothing to do with human rights or ethnic issues, he asserted.
