New signing Mahmoud Kahraba came off the bench to open his Ahly account with a brace as they romped to a 5-0 victory over Tanta to extend their winning start to 11 matches in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday.

Hussein El-Shahat gave Ahly a first-half before a late salvo saw Ahly score four goals after an enterprising attacking display.

Two strikes from Kahraba and goals from Ahmed El-Sheikh and Marwan Mohsen wrapped up a routine victory for a formidable Ahly side, who have only conceded two goals so far this season.

Kahraba, an Egyptian international, joined Ahly on a free transfer this month after ending his contract with Portuguese side Aves.

He is still the subject of a complaint from Ahly's Cairo rivals Zamalek, who claim that Kahraba had breached his deal with the club and departed without their consent last summer.

Ahly top the table with maximum 33 points, four ahead of second-placed Arab Contractors, who played two matches more. Tanta lie third from bottom on 10 points.

El-Shahat opened the scoring after 11 minutes, hitting home on the rebound after his spot-kick was saved by the keeper.

Ahly wasted a plenty of goal-scoring chances to increase their lead, including an effort from El-Sheikh that was denied by a goal-line clearance from Tanta's Mohamed El-Ashri.

But they were finally rewarded for their complete dominance in the 79th minute as a goalkeeping clearance fell to Kahraba to fire home into an empty net.

One minute later, El-Sheikh made it 3-0 when he rifled a cut-back from Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul into the roof of the net.

Striker Mohsen added the fourth when he finished off a sweeping move, with Kahraba the architect. Kahraba then turned to scorer in stoppage time when he beat the keeper at his near post as Ahly claimed another impressive victory.
