The only patient in Egypt diagnosed with contracting the coronavirus shows no symptoms of the disease and is in “excellent health,” Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed said on Tuesday, adding that the case is being closely monitored.

“The case might be even better than 82 percent of mild cases worldwide,” Minister Zayed said in televised comments on Monday.

The patient will remain in isolation until they test negative for the virus, the minister said during a phone interview with TV show El-Hekaya on satellite channel MBC.

The first case of coronavirus in Egypt was confirmed on Friday, with officials saying that the sufferer was a foreigner without specifying their nationality. The person tested positive for the quick-spreading virus but showed no symptoms, the health ministry said at the time.

Egypt ended on Monday a14-day quarantine for 302 Egyptian citizens who had returned home from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus.

Health Minister Zayed said that “tests were conducted on [the returnees] three times a day for 15 days, and the results are reassuring.”

The minister added that more than 17,450 follow-ups have been done on the citizens held in quarantine as well as on the supervising medical team.

The minister also dismissed reports that a coronavirus patient had left Egypt for China through Moscow.

On the two Egyptians stopped earlier this month from boarding a plane in China with the 302 Egyptians coming from Wuhan, Zayed said the measure was taken by Chinese authorities after the two showed slightly increased body temperatures.

The pair are now believed to be in good condition, she said, adding that Egypt is arranging for their return home, where they were be quarantined.
