Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Monday with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Kuwait as part of an ongoing tour to several Arab countries that started on Saturday.

During the meeting, Shoukry delivered a message from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to the Kuwaiti emir on the latest developments in the dispute with Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Egypt's foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement on Monday that Al-Sabah stressed his country's support for Egypt in the ongoing dispute, adding that Kuwait stands with Egypt in its efforts to preserve its interests and protect its water rights.

Shoukry expressed Egypt's appreciation for the position Kuwait took during the ministerial meeting of the League of Arab States on the GERD on 4 March, in which Kuwait supported a resolution declaring solidarity with the Egyptian position in the GERD crisis.

Meanwhile, Shoukry also met with Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah and Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohamed Al-Sabah.

Shoukry and the Kuwaiti PM discussed the latest developments in the GERD issue, with the Kuwaiti prime minister stressing his country's support for Egypt in anything that would maintain its national security.
