Egypt's Administrative Control Authority (ACA) arrested on Monday an Egyptian parliamentary member on bribery charges.
According to an ACA statement, the lawmaker is accused of receiving EGP 300,000 (approximately $20,000) from a company’s board chairman to influence some officials to help him retrieve an insurance sum of a project worth EGP 7.5 million.
The authority earlier arrested a number of officials in Muqattam municipality for accepting a bribe of EGP 1.5 million from the same company to issue some licences of the same project.
The ACA, the state body responsible for enforcing laws and regulations within state bodies, has been waging a national campaign on corruption in recent years.
