Egypt's culture ministry revealed that it has finalised the restoration and renovation works on Cinema Masr (Egypt Cinema), one of the oldest and most important cinema theatres in the northern city of Port Said.
The edifice had been closed on and off for many years, with the last 20 years seeing it managed by a private entity that rented the space. In 2017, the building was closed due to the collapse of large segments of its roof.
The cinema recently came under the purview of the Ministry of Culture, which began the general restoration works.
Ready to accommodate 526 viewers, the cinema is now operational and equipped with the latest cinematic technology, the culture ministry's press release said.
