Egypt will shut down Giza zoo and its aquarium grotto starting Wednesday as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The zoo, one of the capital’s most popular family attractions, said in a statement on Tuesday that both the zoo and aquarium will shut down for 15 days to comply with recent measures banning public gatherings to confront the viral outbreak.

During the past few days, Egypt has imposed several precautionary measures in an attempt to stem the spread of the global pandemic, including a suspension of international flights to and from the country, which will begin on Thursday and last until the end of the month.

The country has also closed schools and universities, halted all sports activities, imposed restrictions on the duration of prayers, and said it will reduce the number of public sector employees who need to go into work.
