Covid-19 Egypt Daily Report
Egypt has reported 46 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number to 256, while the death toll rose to seven after one new fatality was confirmed on Thursday, the health ministry said.
The 46 new cases detected on Thursday include four foreigners of different nationalities, and 42 Egyptians, all of whom had come in contact with previously announced positive cases.
The new fatality was a 68-year-old man who died in a quarantine hospital in Giza governorate on Thursday.
The ministry said in a statement that the number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and had received negative results has reached 42.
The total number of full recoveries so far remains at 28, ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed stated.
“All the newly reported cases are in isolation hospitals undergoing medical treatment in accordance with the World Health Organization’s guidelines,” Megahed said.
Egypt on Thursday announced that all malls, restaurants, coffee shops and nightclubs would be required to close between the hours of 7pm and 6am, starting immediately and continuing until the end of the month, in the latest measure designed to halt the spread of the outbreak.
The country has also suspended international flights and shut down schools and universities for two weeks.
Mass gatherings, cultural activities and sporting events have been cancelled.
