The Ministry of Workforce has started giving out EGP 500 in assistance for seasonal workers whose daily earnings have been affected by the spread of the coronavirus.
The exceptional assistance sum was allocated after President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi ordered special care be provided for seasonal workers who are out of jobs because of Covid-19.
Some 300,000 seasonal workers stand to benefit from this urgent assistance, in addition to beneficiaries of seasonal workers who were injured in road accidents, and those registered with Hemaya and Aman presidential initiatives.
Minister of Workforce Mohamed Saafan announced on Wednesday that 130,000 seasonal workers have registered on the ministry's website www.manpower.gov.eg since 19 March, noting that applications handed in person will not be processed.
He added that applications may also be received by calling 01212201303, sending a WhatsApp message on 01212201303, or via the post office.
Meanwhile, the cabinet said it has set up an account affiliated to the Tahiya Masr Fund to counter crises and disasters. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said donations in the local currency can be made on that account in every Egyptian bank on Swift Code CBEGEGCXXXX.
Minister of Endowment and Tahiya Masr Fund Spokesman Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa said donations on this account can be made via credit cards and on the official online website of Tahiya Masr.
Gomaa has allocated EGP 50 million for the seasonal workers that lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 crisis.
