The Directorate of Health Affairs in Upper Egypt's Aswan said in a statement that the number of coronavirus cases in the governorate has reached 15 people, not 75 as reported by a local Egyptian news outlet on 4 April.
Until 27 March, Aswan was of few Egyptian governorates which had not recorded any cases of COVID-19.
Currently, North Sinai is the only Egyptian governorate with no reported cases of the coronavirus, according to the local governor.
"The Aswan Health Affairs Directorate totally dismisses any other reports on coronavirus infections in the governorate and urges citizens to seek information from entitled authorities," the statement said.
"The recorded cases in Aswan are nine workers in the tourism sector and six members of the medical team in the governorate’s quarantine hospital," the statement said.
Egypt's health ministry announced 149 new positive coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the total to 1,322, as well as seven new fatalities, bringing the overall death toll to 85.
Monday saw the highest number of cases detected in a single day since the first case was recorded in the country in mid-February.
The health ministry said in a statement that the number of coronavirus patients who had retested negative for the virus has reached 396, of whom 259 have fully recovered and left isolation hospitals.
