Egypt's Supply Minister Aly Moselhy said that the local season of wheat supply will start on 15 April, and continues for three months, with a target of 3.6 million tons.

Moselhy's remarks came during a cabinet meeting yesterday to review Egypt's strategic reserves amid coronavirus concerns.

Adding the expected 3.6 million tons from the local season of harvest to the existed 3-month wheat reserves that Egypt already has, Moselhy says, Egypt hence has enough wheat reserves for the country from 7 to 8 months.

"President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi directed to increase the stock of imported wheat during the local harvest season, as 800,000 tons are planned to be imported," Moselhy said.

According to MENA, New Valley Governor Mohamed El-Zamalout witnessed Saturday the start of wheat harvest in El-Kharga City.

Egypt, the world’s largest wheat buyer, has a storage capacity of wheat estimated at 3.2 million tons, Moselhy said yesterday in a separate statement by the ministry.
