In the evening on Sham El-Nessim, the Egyptian channels CBC and Al-Hayah livestreamed concerts by numerous well-known local musicians and bands on their social media channels.
The concert is part of the channels’ initiative to provide entertainment to the viewers in home isolation and during the curfew put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.
The three-hour event, which was held as part of Sham El-Nessim celebrations, featured Hisham Abas, Hamid El-Shaeri, Mohamad Mohie, Ahmed Adaweyah, Moustafa Hagag, as well as the bands Massar Egbari and Wust El-Balad.
The concert received almost 315,000 views on CBC and Al-Hayah’s Facebook pages.
Each musician or band’s performance took approximately 15-20 minutes, performing live from their homes or studios and engaging in conversation with the CBC presenters.
All the musicians underscored the importance of staying at home, where one can still enjoy the cultural offerings coming through online platforms.
“Sing with us while at home,” was the motto repeated throughout the concert.
Presenter Heba Said opened the evening on a positive note, saying “the world is going through a crisis now, but there is always hope,” before the first musicians, Hisham Abas and Hamid El-Shaeri, took the stage to perform Einy.
Hisham Abbas performed Aamel Dagga, a title song from his 2019 album, while Hamid El-Shaeri performed one of his best-known old hits Galgely.
Following Abbas and El-Shaeri, other musicians performed songs from their repertoire that are beloved by their fans.
Among the songs performed by Mostafa Hagag was Ibn Masr and Ya Mnaana. The latter song’s video clip, posted on YouTube in 2015, has garnered over 200 million views.
Wust El-Balad began their segment with their 2015 song by A’m Mina, followed by the band’s other classic hits such as Shams El-Nahar.
During the performance, the band’s front man, guitarist and vocalist Hany Adel, stressed the importance of respecting social distancing guidelines and the taking of all necessary precautions to protect oneself from the coronavirus.
Wust El-Balad was followed by another well-known Egyptian rock band, Massar Egbari, who started with their 2015 hit Sabahek.
The band’s vocalist Hany El-Dakkak said that the band had prepared a special selection of songs for Sham El-Nessim. The band’s performance continued with many well-known songs, and closed with their 2016 hit Cherophobia.
The last hour of the concert featured Mohamad Mohie performing Sahranin, Beyfakrouny and Hatta El-Hawa, followed by Ahmed Adaweyah, who performed songs including Baalo Kam Youm and closed the concert with Bent El-Soltan.
