Earthquake of 5.2 magnitude hits Hurghada

A minor earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hit eastern Hurghada on Tuesday evening, Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIA) said in a statement.

According to the NRIA, residents of several cities in the Red Sea governorate and in Upper Egypt regions felt the tremors, but no casualties were reported.

In 1992, an earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude hit the country, killing 541 people and injuring 6,522 others.

Another earthquake in 1903 killed around 10,000 people.
