Egypt’s National Election Authority has given the green light to those who are looking to run in the elections for the Senate, slated for August, to have medical check-ups at health ministry hospitals.
According to a statement on Monday, those seeking to nominate themselves can have the required medical examinations and tests at hospitals and laboratories designated by the health ministry, from Monday.
The announcement comes a few days after the NEA said Senate elections would take place on 11-12 August, with Egyptians abroad set to cast their ballots on 9-10 August.
Candidates can register between 11 and 18 July.
The results of the first round of voting will be announced on 19 August.
Second round votes will be on 8-9 September, while the final results will be announced on 16 September, the NEA said.
The authority also said that health guidelines and physical distancing will be enforced at all polling stations.
The Senate will have 300 seats, one third of which will be elected via the individual candidacy system, another third through the closed party list system, and the final third to be named by the president.
The terms will last for five years.
The Senate elections will be followed by elections for the House of Representatives.
