Egypt’s National Population Council launched on Monday a public awareness campaign about the coronavirus pandemic at Cairo’s central Al-Shohadaa metro station, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The three-week public awareness campaign, launched in cooperation with PLAN international, Eva Pharma Group and Egypt for Sustainable Development, will roam metro and train stations in Cairo and Giza.

According to the organisers of the event, the campaign aims to target crowded places to raise awareness about COVID-19 and how to take safety precautions.

The campaign includes distributing medical kits including sanitisers and vitamins as well as instructional awareness posters and colour books for children.

Egypt has recorded 82,070 cases of coronavirus, including 3,858 fatalities and 24,419 fully recovered patients.

Many Egyptians are yet to be won to wearing protective masks and maintain social distancing in public.

The government has recently eased lockdown measures to combat the spread of Covid-19, which were put in place last March, allowing certain busineses such as coffeeshops and restaurants to resume regular operations at reduced capacity.
