Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee member Hany Abo Rida announced Thursday that he will run for the CAF presidency in case current boss Ahmad Ahmad decides not to pursue another term.
“The CAF now has a president and he has all respect, so we have speak carefully about the elections," Abo Rida told a radio programme Thursday.
"I will run for the CAF presidential election if Ahmad Ahmad decides not to go for it,” he added.
The 66-year-old official, who is also a FIFA council member since 2017, served as Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president but resigned following the shock elimination of Egypt from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Round 16.
"I hope to gain the support of the Egyptian country during the CAF presidential election," the former EFA boss said.
CAF elections are scheduled to be held in March 2021, though the country that will host the event has not been named.
