EgyptAir will increase the number of international destinations to which it is operating regular flights from 30 to 35 starting August, the national carrier’s chairman Roshdy Zakria said in a statement on Tuesday.
The number of domestic trips to Egyptian coastal cities and tourist hubs will also be increased in a bid to stimulate local tourism, he added.
The company will operate trips to Turkey starting next month, raising its total number of European destinations to 17. These include Amsterdam, Athens, Brussels, Budapest, Paris, Copenhagen, Rome, Frankfurt, Geneva, London, Madrid, Munich, Milan, Vienna, Larnaca, and Istanbul.
Other flights will be operated to two more African countries, Chad and Kenya, bringing the total number of destination cities on the continent to seven: Addis Ababa, Juba, Dar Al-Salam, Tunis, Khartoum, N'Djamena and Nairobi.
Two other destinations in the Middle East have been added, Baghdad and Erbil, alongside current flights operated to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Bahrain, and Beirut.
Currently, the flagship carrier runs flights to three cities in North America (Washington, New York, and Toronto), and one city in Asia (Guangzhou).
Egypt resumed international flights earlier in July after a three-month closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. Foreign tourists are now allowed to fly into three coastal governorates only, which have recorded the lowest numbers of coronavirus cases in the country, with more cities planned to reopen for foreign visitors in later stages.
Travelers must sign at departure airports that they are free of the virus prior to boarding their planes, while those coming from countries with high rates of coronavirus are required to submit test results to prove they are virus-free before travelling.
EgyptAir’s occupancy rate during the first stage of operation is 60 to 70 percent, the company said.
