Egypt's multi-award-winning play 'Collar and Bracelet' returns to the stage

The famed play Collar and Bracelet is directed by Nasser Abdel-Moneim

The award-winning play 'Collar and Bracelet' will return to the stage with performances taking place at the open-air theatre of the Cairo Opera House: on 28 July, followed by shows on 5, 6 and 7 August.

Production of the Cairo's Taleya Theatre operating under the Theatre Artistic House (part of the Ministry of Culture), the play won the best performance at Tunisia's Carthage Theatre Days (Journées théâtrales de Carthage), which 21st edition took place in December in Tunis.

The play also won the Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi award during the Arab Theatre Festival held in Sharjah (January 2019). 

It was then staged within the National Theatre Festival in Cairo (August 2019).

The play was first staged during the 8th Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre (1996), where Abdel-Moneim won the best director award. The show was reproduced in 2018 within the silver jubilee of the Cairo International Theatre for Experimental Theatre.

Directed by Nasser Abdel-Moneim, the play is based on the novel by Egyptian writer Yahya Taher Abdullah (1938-1981), adapted for the stage by Sameh Mahran.

The events of Collar and Bracelet take place in Upper Egypt where an impoverished family becomes prey to popular myths.

The play stars Fatma Mohamed Ali, Mahmoud El-Zayyat, Martina Adel, Ahmed Tariq, Ashraf Shoukri, Sherif Al-Qazzaz, Shabrawi Mohamed, Mohamed Haseeb, Sarah Adel, Salma Omar, Sarah Moustafa and Nael Ali.

The play's music arrangement is by Gamal Rashad featuring the rababa player Ibrahim El-Qet and his ensemble. The scenography is by Mohie Fahmy and the costumes are by Naeema Agamy.
