Egypt's health ministry said in a statement on Thursday that it recorded 131 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed infections nationwide to 95,006 cases since the detection of the first case on 14 February.
This is the fifth consecutive day for the health ministry to register coronavirus infections less than the 200 cases. For the first time since April, Egypt’s daily toll of coronavirus cases dropped below 200 this week, with the daily toll hovering between 110-170 cases since Sunday.
As for Egypt's weekly COVID-19 infection rate, it has been going down for the sixth consecutive week. Between 28 June and 3 July, 2,158 coronavirus cases were detected nationwide, compared to 4,080 cases between 21 and 27 June.
The ministry said in the statement that it also reported 21 new deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities from the respiratory virus to 4,951.
The statement added that 1,716 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus on Thursday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 48,898.
