Ahly winger Mahmoud 'Kaharaba' Abdel-Moneim was handed a hefty EGP 1 million fine by the club following a training ground bust-up with goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi, the Cairo giants announced on Wednesday.
"Kahraba was fined EGP 1 million following the incident that took place in the team's training on Wednesday," read a statement on the club's official website.
"The player apologized to the team's football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz and keeper Mohamed El-Shenawi. He stressed on his complete respect of the club's rules and its officials."
The cause of the bust-up was not immediately clear. Kahraba is no stranger to controversy, having been involved in nuermous off-field problems during his tenures with Ahly's arch-rivals Zamalek, fellow Egyptian club Enppi and Swiss side Luzern.
The 26-year-old also caused controversy for unilaterally terminating his contract with Zamalek to join Portuguese side Aves last summer. His brief spell in Portugal was brought to an end last January when he joined Ahly.
He was recently hit with a $2 million fine by world governing body FIFA for breaching his Zamalek deal. He has appealed the decision.
Kahraba is currently serving a 10-match domestic ban after being involved in a fracas with Zamalek players during an Egyptian Super Cup game that was played in the UAE in February.
He has two matches remaining on his suspension.
