Nigeria’s promising striker Mustapha Babadidi will miss the Super Eagles’ friendly game against Egypt next month after picking up an injury.
The 16-year-old, who plays for Gombe United, was initially included in Nigeria’s 26-man squad for the game. However, he said on Saturday he would not be able to play after colliding with Enugu Rangers goalkeeper during a league game on 21 March.
“I have been injured since our 2-1 victory over Enugu Rangers. It's painful that I'll miss the friendly since I'm not fit. I was excited when my name was listed for the match,” Babadidi, who has scored ten goals this season, told SuperSport.com.
“However, I hope to work hard for another invitation after completing my rehabilitation.”
Nigeria’s squad includes several new faces, including Gbolahan Salami, Nura Mohammed (Enyimba), goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi (Heartland), Ahmed Adesope (3SC) and Shehu Maija'ma (Wikki Tourists).
Nigeria and Egypt will meet on 12 April in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates as both sides prepare for the World Cup and African Nations Cup qualifying campaigns.
