Egypt maintain position in first FIFA rankings after coronavirus suspension

There were some minor changes in the September rankings despite the suspension of all international games after the outbreak of the novel coronavirus

After six months of suspension of international games due to coronavirus pandemic, Egypt's national football team held on to their 51st position in the FIFA global football rankings, published on Thursday, 17 September. 

The Pharaohs came in seventh place among African countries, behind Senegal (20), Tunisia (26), Nigeria (29), Algeria (35), Morocco (43), and Ghana (46).

There were some minor changes in the September rankings of other African teams with Tunisia jumping one place and Nigeria advancing two positions.

Egypt were also placed fourth among Arab countries, after Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.

The Pharaohs made it into the world's top ten teams after they won consecutive African Cup of Nations trophies in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Belgium lead an unchanged top four national teams including France, Brazil and England.

The best mover in the new ranking was Russia, jumping 6 places to the 32nd place, while the biggest drop was Slovakia's, who dropped four spots to 36th place.
