Misr Company for Sound, Light and Tourism Development, a subsidiary of the Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels that is affiliated to Egypt’s Ministry of the Public Business Sector, launched an international auction Tuesday that targets upgrading the Sound & Light facilities of the Giza Pyramids.
The auction winner will be allowed to advance sounds and light facilities at the Giza Pyramids plateau over 15 years — which can be renewed for an additional 15 years if approval is given — in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of the Public Business Sector said in a statement.
The auction comes under a programme adopted by the Egyptian government regarding the management of assets and ventures owned by the public business sector and affiliated companies, and aims at modernising the services extended to the tourists in the area, thereby increasing tourism and raising state revenues in the long term, according to the statement.
According to the auction's terms, the winning investor will be an associated manager and is committed to advancing the Giza Pyramids Sound & Light show using cutting-edge techniques, while maintaining current historical material, and with the approval of the permanent antiquities committee.
On Thursday, Misr Company for Sound, Light and Tourism Development announced the change of previously scheduled timings for the Sound & Light shows in its five regions, including the Giza Pyramids, Karnak, Philae, Abu Simbel and Edfu, for the sake of attracting domestic tourism and restoring tourism in general.
The Sound & Light shows will be broadcast in foreign languages with a commitment to the precautionary measures established against the spread of Covid-19.
