Aston Villa's Egyptian winger Mahmoud "Trezeguet" Hassan has hailed the performance of his countryman Mohamed Salah in last night's game where Aston Villa beat Salah's Liverpool in the English Premier League.

Trezeguet described the Reds' star winger as one of the best three players in the world.

A double from the Pharaohs star Salah was not enough for Liverpool, as Aston Villa hammered them 7-2, continuing their perfect start of the Premier League.

"I met Salah after the match to say hard luck. This is football, where you win one day and lose in another. Salah was the winner of the EUFA and the English Premier League, and he is one of the best two or three players in the world," Trezeguet said in a video posted by Villa's official Arabic Twitter account.

"Sure the loss is a big one, but I wish him the best of luck to achieve more results for his country and his club in the future," he added.

Trezeguet and Salah have been among the Pharaohs' top stars in recent years, with both leading the team in the 2018 World Cup finals and playing in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Egypt.

Hours before the match, Trezeguet said that Sunday will be "a special day in Egypt," as he would be facing countryman and Liverpool star Salah, who took his tally to five league goals this season.

When Villa and Liverpool met in the league last November, Trezeguet was on target after scoring the opener, but Liverpool won the match 2-1.

"We didn't expect that big result. We only played to win and we fought in the pitch to avoid the loss of last season," Trezeguet said about Sunday's win.

"We are dealing with every game like a final and we hope we continue with the same performance this season.

"We learned from the difficult circumstances that we faced last season and finally we managed to remain in the top flight league. This reflected on our performance this season, and the recently signed players also helped the team amid a superb performance also from the old ones.

"It is a team effort and we have no stars in the team, as the whole team is the star," he concluded.

Trezeguet, who joined Villa from Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa in summer 2019, scored six Premier League goals in 34 appearances, and provided two assists last season.

The Egyptian international was instrumental in Villa's campaign to maintain their place in the Premier League after scoring three goals in the last three games.
