Political parties and movements opposed to the constituent assembly – commissioned to draft Egypt's post-Mubarak constitution – will hold a press conference at the Journalists' Syndicate late Monday to discuss the controversial issue.
The event was initiated by the Constitution for Every Egyptian Front, a coalition of over 40 political groups, in coordination with the Journalists' Syndicate.
Representatives from Al-Azhar and the Coptic Church, among others from across the political spectrum and social classes, will take to the podium.
Gad Nasser, a constitutional law professor at Cairo University, will explain the contents of a lawsuit filed against the constituent assembly.
The membership of the constituent assembly was announced on Sunday 25 March. Sixty-five percent of the members are Islamists from the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafist political parties, leading many liberals and leftists to reject the assembly's legitimacy.
