Delegations representing the Libyan House of Representatives and the Libyan High Council of State have agreed on the need to end the transitional period and begin preparations for permanent arrangements for the Libyan state, as they met in Cairo between 11 to 13 October, a joint statement read.
During the Egypt-sponsored talks, the delegations conducted legal discussions on the possibility of conducting a referendum on the current constitution.
The two sides have showed significant flexibility and have agreed on the need to continue discussions, the statement read.
The delegations have expressed aspiration to hold another round of negotiations in Egypt to continue discussions on reaching concensus on constitutional arrangements and to allow the Libyan House of Representatives to conduct a societal dialogue on the issue.
The delegations were encouraged by Egypt to continue discussions to reach a legal agreement that gurantees constitutional arrangements and activate a comprehensive political agreement.
The two sides in the conflict in Libya have declared ceasefire in the country since August. Talks to reach a political resolution to the conflict have been held in Egypt and Morocco in recent weeks. Tunisia will also host intra Libyan political and military talks in early November.
