Zamalek's Tunisian midfielder Ferjani Sassi arrived in Cairo on Tuesday after recovering from COVID-19, giving his side a timely boost ahead of their anticipated clash against Morocco's Raja in the African Champions League semis.

The White Knights earned a first-leg advantage after defeating Raja 1-0 in Casablanca on Sunday. They will host the second leg in Cairo on Saturday.

Sassi missed the first leg after contracting the highly-contagious virus before announcing on Monday that his PCR test turned to negative.

It is not clear whether he will take part in the second leg though, given that he might be short of match fitness.

The 28-year-old has been out of action since 11 October when he announced that he would go into a five-day self-quarantine after he came into contact with an infected person while on international duty with Tunisia.

Sassi flew from Tunisia to Morocco on Thursday, three days before the first leg, but the club said he would not be available after testing positive for COVID-19. 

Zamalek are bidding for their sixth Champions League title and the first since they defeated Raja 1-0 on aggregate in a two-legged final in 2002.
