Egyptian renowned marimba player Nesma Abdel-Aziz and her ensemble will perform at the open air theater of the Cairo Opera House this Friday.
The concert will feature numerous compositions beloved by Egyptian audiences, arrangements of Arabic classics as well as western music and jazz flavours.
Abdel-Aziz began her career in 2001 when she performed with renowned musician and composer Omar Khairat. She later started her own band to work on her own personal projects.
Having studied at the Cairo Conservatory of Music before traveling to continue her studies in the United States, she is now considered one of the best Marimba players in the Arab world. She has performed in many international festivals and events.
The event is taking place two days before the opening of the 29th Arab Music Festival where almost a hundred musicians and singers from Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Tunisia will perform in Cairo, Alexandria and Damanhour Opera Houses. The performers include Ali El-Haggar, Medhat Saleh, Hany Shaker, Mohamed El-Helw, Nadia Mustafa, Soma, Iman Abdelghani, Medhat Saleh, Saber Al Rabaei, Saad Ramadan and Humam Ibrahim, to name a few.
Egypt resumed public cultural activities in July as part of the country's cautious reopening following the COVID-19 lockdown. All events are held under strict measures that include social distancing, obligatory facemasks, and sanitising.
