Egyptian authorities have seized a large shipment of the amphetamine drug Captagon worth over EGP 113 million (around $7 million) in transit via the port city of Damietta, the interior ministry said Sunday.

According to a ministry statement, over 3.2 million tablets of the drug were smuggled inside a canned corn container, which was in transit at the Egyptian port upon arrival from an Arab country.

The shipment was set to be delivered to another Arab country, according to the ministry, which did not provide details on the shipment’s country of origin or destination.

The seizure is part of a crackdown on the trafficking of drugs and illegal substances, the ministry added.
