An Egyptian health committee has sterilised and disinfected the hometown of Egypt and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah in Gharbiya after the player tested positive for Coronavirus, days after attending a crowded family wedding in a scene deemed controversial.

The committee conducted swabs to all family members or residents of the village who are believed to have been in contact with Salah during the wedding he attended on Friday upon his arrival from London, prior to the Egyptian national team camp ahead of Togo’s game.

As many as 60 individuals who are believed to have come into contact with Salah were traced by the medical committee, which was dispatched by the country's health ministry, to make sure they don’t display any virus-related symptoms.

They also received the necessary medications as per Egyptian medical protocol related to Coronavirus patients and contacts, according to the health ministry’s undersecretary at Gharbiya.

The 28-year old Egyptian super star's infection was detected earlier on Friday as part of the routine Coronavirus  PCR tests conducted before games. Hours later, the infection was confirmed after his second test for the flu-like virus came back positive too, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

Salah was seen in pictures and video footage dancing in the wedding ceremony, and surrounded by the audience, a matter that sparked criticism on social media over what they described as "poor" adherence to preventative measures.

He also attended a ceremony on Wednesday to receive the Inspirer award by the EFA.

The Liverpool winger has been in self-isolation since Friday after coordinating with the national team's doctor and Liverpool, the EFA said.
