Tarek Abdel-Razek, accused of spying for Israel, refused to be represented by any of the lawyers who came Saturday to court for his defence.
He accused his lawyer, Esmat Talaat, of being sent by security, after which she submitted to the court her withdrawal from the case alledging that the accused is a traitor to the country.
Abdel-Razek insisted that he be defended by lawyer Mahmoud Abdel Hamid who was summoned by the court.
Abdel Razeq, the owner of an import and export company, is accused of spying on Egypt for the Israeli Mossad with two Israeli accomplices, Idi Moushay and Joseph Daymour, who will be tried in absentia.
Abdel-Razek is also charged with harming diplomatic relations between Egypt, Syria and Lebanon by providing Israeli accomplices with information on several Syrian and Lebanese citizens.
