Governor of Egypt’s Menoufiya governorate Ibrahim Abu Laymon announced on Sunday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement to Al-Ahram, Abu Laymon said that he will undergo treatment and will continue his work from the governor’s rest house in Shebeen El-Kom, where he will be isolated.
The governor took a COVID-19 test after four of his aides tested positive for the virus.
Earlier on Sunday, Abu Laymon directed the governorate to reduce by 25 percent the workforce in the public sector, with the exception of education institutions, to curb the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
Egypt has so far recorded 115,138 cases of coronavirus, including 6,621 fatalities and 102,490 full recoveries.
