Units from the Egyptian, Greek and Cypriot armed forces have begun a joint naval and air drill (dubbed Medusa 10) in the Mediterranean, according to a statement by the Egyptian military spokesman on Tuesday.
The multi-day training involves the participation of Egyptian, Greek, Cypriot, French, and Emirati naval and air forces. Saudi Arabia, the US, Bahrain, Sudan, Jordan, Italy and Germany are participating in the drill as observers, the statement said.
The drill includes implementing several joint naval and air combat tasks to enhance the skills of commanders and officers in managing joint operations, as well as to exchange expertise to reach the highest levels of efficiency and readiness to implement any joint tasks under different circumstances, especially in light of the rapid changes witnessed on the regional and international arena.
"The participants from all the countries expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and good organisation, which comes in light of the growing partnership and military cooperation between the Egyptian Armed Forces and friendly and brotherly countries," the statement added.
The statement added that the drill comes in light of the coordination of efforts and joint work to confront the challenges in the Mediterranean region.
