Egypt reported 464 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the total infection tally to 120,611 since the outbreak began in mid-February.

The health ministry also reported 23 new deaths, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 6,877.

The statement said that 218 patients had been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 104,499.

Egypt has been recently witnessing a rebound in coronavirus daily cases.

For the first time in almost five months, starting 2 December, Egypt’s daily infections have been surpassing the 400-patient mark.

Egypt has urged caution in anticipation of any spike leading to a second wave, especially with the resurgence in cases of the coronavirus and lockdowns in many European countries, particularly with the advent of autumn.

However, Egypt said it will not reinstate a full or partial lockdown if coronavirus infections spike.
