Iconic Egyptian singer Mohamed Mounir, who is dubbed by fans as 'The King,' is gearing up for the launch of his new EP titled “Bab El-Gamal” ("The Door to Beauty"), which is scheduled for single release in the winter season.
Produced by Qanawat, the mini album, which comprises five songs, will start with “Bab El-Gamal,” which is written by Ahmed Hassan Ra'oul, composed by Samer Abou Taleb and arranged by Omar Ismail, in collaboration with producer Amir Mahrous, who arranged the second single "Feinak ya Habib" ("Where Are You, My Love"), written by Abdel-Aziz Zein El-Abdeen.
The EP also includes "Ana Raye'" ("I'm Cool") by lyricist Nour Eldin Mohamed, composer Ahmed Ammar and arranger Osama El-Hindi, in addition to two songs by German producer Roman Bonka; "Zo'o" (roughly translated to “Elegant”), written by Magdi Naguib and composed by Wagih Aziz, and "Mas'alet El-Senn" ("The Age Issue"), written by Salah Fayez and composed by Hani Shenouda.
In recent days, there has been speculation over the condition of Mounir’s health. The Music Syndicate issued a statement on Saturday confirming that the beloved artist had just undergone regular scans and examinations and is currently at home after suffering from minor fatigue.
Mounir, who shot to fame in the late 1970s and is most known for Nubian folk-inspired tunes, has collaborated with some of the most acclaimed Egyptian poets including Abdel-Rahman El-Abnoudi, Salah Jahin, Fouad Haddad, and Sayed Hegab.
Mounir has also collaborated with an arsenal of iconic musicians from different generations, including Fathy Salama, Yehia Khalil, and Shenouda, enjoying a flourishing career as one of the biggest African music pop stars alongside artists like Khaled, Youssou N'Dour and Amr Diab, with all of whom Mounir has collaborated.
Mounir has also made his mark as an actor with various appearances in film, TV, and theatre, collaborating with the country's biggest actors and crew in important works, including some of director Youssef Chahine's best.
Mounir also made frequent appearances during the year of the epidemic, releasing a few singles including "El-Nas Fi Belady" ("People of My Country") in addition to a few performances, including an online streaming concertin Ramadan, from his home quarantine during the lockdown, that featuring talented young singers Dina El-Wedidi and Nouran Abou Taleb.
