Judge Lashin Ibrahim (Ahram)
Lashin Ibrahim, the head of Egypt's National Elections Authority (NEA), died on Friday from complications of the coronavirus.
Ibrahim, a distinguished appeal court judge, headed the NEA since 2017, overseeing presidential elections (2018), Senate and House elections (2020), as well as a referendum on amendments to the country's constitution (2019).
He had tested positive for the virus 20 days ago and was receiving treatment at a private hospital.
His body will be laid to rest later today in his home governorate of Qalioubiya.
Ibrahim graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1980.
He started his career at the Egyptian Public Prosecution before reaching the position of Attorney General at the Public Funds Prosecution.
He was then promoted to serve as vice president to the head of the Court of Cassation.
In 2010, the High Council of the Judiciary approved him for a loan mission in Kuwait, where he spent six years.
Lashin was selected in 2017 to head the NEA per a presidential decree issued by the president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
