Three more Egyptian doctors passed away on Saturday as a result of coronavirus complications, according to statements released by the country's Medical Syndicate.
The syndicate mourned the death of its three members, who were from three different governorates: Mounifya, Alexandria and Sharqiya.
The statement added that the total number of doctors that have died due to COVID-19 since the pandemic broke out in Egypt last February has reached a number of 289 deaths.
Egypt has a total infection toll of 147,810 cases, including 8,085 fatalities and 117,529 recoveries.
Egypt entered a second wave of the pandemic in the last week of December after it recorded double the number of infections daily.
The country has scaled up efforts to curtail the recent spike, which includes enforcing an immediate fine of EGP 50 (approximately $3.16) on those not wearing face masks in public and reducing workforce attendance in public premises, in addition to cancelling in-class education and postponing first-term exams at schools and universities.
