Egyptian Football Association (EFA) board member Mohamed El-Shawarby announced Sunday that the 2020/2021 Egyptian Premier League season will finish next September as they aim to stop it during Tokyo Olympic Games.

The new season of the domestic competition started on 11 December 2020 after the 2019-20 season was completed in a record 14-month-plus, due to a four-month stoppage caused by the outset of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We have a project to finish the Egyptian Premier League season before 30 September," El-Shawarby told a television programme late on Saturday.

"The EFA board member agreed that all the Egyptian Premier League games will stop during Tokyo Olympic Games," the EFA board member added.

Early last November, the EFA announced the new Egyptian Premier League season will end in August 2021 and will not be stopped during the summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, but they retreated their decision after Saturday's meeting.

Meanwhile, another EFA board member Ahmed Hossam announced that there is no intention to stop working with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) as they will do their best to develop the way of using it.

"We asked to bring new tools to be used while using the Video Assistant Referee to improve its performance," Hossam said.
