The Ethiopian Ministry of Health on Saturday said the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the East African country rose to 127,792 after new 220 cases were reported.
The ministry said that the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the country reached 1,985 as of Saturday evening, including 11 new COVID-19 related deaths reported during the last 24-hour period.
The ministry further said that some 113,295 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 had recovered, including 113 in the last 24-hour period.
It also said that some 12,510 of the total reported COVID-19 cases were active cases, of which 200 of the patients were said to be in severe condition.
Ethiopia, Africa's second-most populous nation with about 107 million people, has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the east African region.
Ethiopia is the fifth-most COVID-19 affected country in the African continent, after South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia.
The Ethiopian government has been calling on the public to implement COVID-19 precautionary measures so as to contain the spread of the virus.
Ethiopia has so far conducted 1,844,719 COVID-19 tests, according to the ministry.
