The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Thursday the extension of the work period of the normalisation committee in charge of managing football in Egypt until the end of this July.

FIFA decided on 18 December to reduce the number of normalisation committee members from five to three, in addition to assigning new officials who were headed by Ahmed Megahed, a former EFA board member.

“FIFA decided to extend the work of the three-party committee in charge of managing the Egyptian Football Association headed by Ahmed Megahed, with Ahmed Hossam Awad and Mohamed El-Shawarby as members, until 31 July 2021” read a statement on the EFA’s official Facebook page.

The trio, who were supposed to direct the EFA’s normalisation committee until 31 January, had one mandate from the FIFA, which is to hold the EFA’s elections, but Egypt has banned clubs’ and associations’ elections due to the spread of COVID-19.

As a result, and according to Egypt's law, the elections will be held in the summer after the Tokyo Olympic Games.
