President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed in a phone call on Thursday to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Egypt's "consistent stance" regarding the Palestinian issue.

El-Sisi said that Egypt will continue its "relentless" efforts to coordinate with the Palestinians and international partners to develop a clear vision to push forward the peace process to settle the Palestinian-Israeli issue based on international resolutions and terms of reference.

The pair exchanged points of view concerning the latest developments in the Palestinian arena as part of the continued coordination between the two sides, said a statement released by Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Rady.

Abbas hailed Egypt's "relentless" and "appreciable" efforts to support the Palestinian issue, the statement added.

He also said that Egypt's role throughout history in this respect is marked with "stability and continuity" with the aim of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.

Egypt's role "reflects the deep and special" relationship between Egypt and Palestine in light of the deeply-rooted ties binding the two peoples.

Over the past years, Cairo has been in talks with several Western parties to push forward the frozen Israeli-Palestinian peace process. In February 2020, Egypt, Jordan, France, and Germany formed the quartet committee on the sidelines of the Munich summit with the aim of reviving the halted negotiations.

The Munich committee has so far held four meetings, the latest of which was hosted by Cairo earlier this month, where the foreign ministers of the four countries forged 11 provisions detailed in a joint statement outlining the endeavours to revive the peace process. A fifth meeting is set to be held in France this year.

Thursday's call comes two days after the conclusion of the two-day talks dubbed the National Palestinian Dialogue held in Egypt on Monday and Tuesday, which brings together various Palestinian factions with the aim of ending inter-Palestinian differences and guaranteeing the success of the long-awaited elections scheduled for this year.

Egypt is set to host another meeting of the National Palestinian Dialogue in March to further discuss the upcoming steps regarding the election of the National Council in Palestine.

Egypt also hosted on Monday an emergency ministerial meeting for the Arab League, in which a resolution was adopted to further support solidarity between Arab counterparts and joint action.

It also affirmed the legitimate rights of Palestinians and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders.
