A number of medical convoys were dispatched on Friday to support the citizens of the Nubian village of El-Mansourieh in Upper Egypt's Aswan governorate as part of the country's initiative Hemaya (Protection), a national plan that aims to provide health services for border regions nationwide.
The convoys, organised by a number of development organisations, were launched under the patronage of Egypt's Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine El-Qabbaj and Aswan Governor Ashraf Attiya.
The convoys distributed foodstuffs and winter blankets to needy families in more than 20 Nubian villages, in addition to anti-coronavirus supplies.
The kick-off event was attended by Ahmed Shaaban, the deputy to the Governor of Aswan, Mostafa Zamzam, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Good Makers Foundation for Development, Tarek Fayed, the chairman and CEO of Banque du Caire, as well as senior government officials.
Shaaban said the country’s administrative apparatus’s supports serious civil society development efforts, expressing his appreciation to the role played by the Good Makers Foundation for Development, Decent Life Foundation, Banque du Caire, and CSR Egypt in the launching of the initiative.
He praised the quality of the medical services provided by the initiative, especially in the screening of eye diseases and the provision of humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, Zamzam said that "the convoys that support our people in Nubia target the neediest areas in Nuba villages [with the aim of] providing medical support in the field of combating blindness to the people of these areas."
He added that the convoys also aim to distribute foodstuffs aid and protective anti-coronavirus protective supplies.
"The convoys will be a start of a new phase of work to further the development of the neediest villages in Aswan," Zamzam noted.
He added that reconstruction work will start soon in the village of El-Mansouriya as well as implementation of a number of other small and micro development projects.
Fayed, the chairman and CEO of Banque du Caire, expressed the bank’s keenness to launch community initiatives to serve the largest possible number of families nationwide, particularly in Upper Egypt and border areas, especially amid the hardships caused by the coronavirus pandemic worldwide.
