Ahly's drama in Mali ended on Thursday when the Egyptian military aircraft tasked with bringing back Ahly's stranded delegation left Bamako to Nigeria before returning to Cairo.

The Egyptian champions were stranded in Mali after Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Malian side Stade Malien in the first leg of the CAF Champions League round 16, when the west African nation saw a military counter-coup starting Monday which prevented Ahly's delegation from returning to Egypt on Monday as scheduled.

Following Bamako's airport closure, an Egyptian military aircraft had landed in the Ivory Coast on Wednesday after receiving Mali's authorization to land in Bamako on Thursday.
