Veteran Egyptian composer Khaled El-Amir died at a Cairo hospital on Friday at the age of 85, leaving a rich legacy in songs.
The Egyptian musicians' syndicate expressed condolences for the renowned musician.
The syndicate's's head Hany Shaker expressed grief for losing a long-time friend and colleague.
Born in 1936, El-Amir had shown early talent as he began playing violin at the age of 10.
He composed songs for many Arab stars to lyrics written by famous poets, peaking since the 70s after he left his military career and mastered oud.
Over decades, he collaborated with some veteran singers like Shadia, Fayza Ahmed, Souad Mohamed and Muharram Fouad, Hany Shaker, Myada El-Hennawy and Latifa.
El-Amir also composed songs of most of Fouad El-Mohandess' classic theatre plays as well as belly-dancing songs for a few films including Atef Salem's Sieqan Fil Wahl (1976), Hadd El-Seif (1986), Samir Seif's Al-Raqesa wal Seyasi (1990) among others.
Among Khaled El-Amir memorable classics are Wahashteny, Etawedt Alik, Nesyanak Sa'ab Akid, Keda Bardo Ya Amar, Bya'een El-HAwa and many others.
