Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi offered on Friday his condolences to India over its coronavirus deaths, amid a grim surge in the Asian country’s daily infections and fatalities.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the Egyptian people, I extend my condolences to the [Indian] government and the friendly people of India over the victims of the coronavirus pandemic,” El-Sisi said in a Facebook post.

“We hope [India] can overcome this difficult time as soon as possible,” the president said, voicing Egypt’s full solidarity with the Indian efforts to face these circumstances.

El-Sisi wished all coronavirus patients in India a speedy recovery.

India - suffering from a second coronavirus wave - has reported a devastating surge in daily coronavirus infections, particularly through dense and rural cities. This has caused hospitals to be overwhelmed as they run out of oxygen and beds.

To date, India: the world's second-most populous nation, has reported over 18.7 million coronavirus cases and 208,330 deaths since the pandemic started with a growing daily surge in cases and fatalities.

The Asian country recorded 386,888 cases and 3,501 deaths on Thursday only.

Also, authorities said several Indian states have run out of coronavirus vaccines, as according to Reuters, a day before a planned widening of a nationwide inoculation drive.

This comes even with the fact that India is the world's biggest producer of vaccines.
