Egypt sends 30 tons of medical aid to coronavirus-ravaged India

Egypt is sending 30 tons of medical equipment and supplies to India, which is suffering from a crushing coronavirus outbreak that has overwhelmed hospitals and caused critical oxygen shortages, the Egyptian health ministry said in a statement.

The aid shipment comprises 300 oxygen cylinders, 20 ventilators, 100 medical beds, 20 electrocardiographs, 30 defibrillators, 50 infusion pumps and 50 infusion syringes.

The Egyptian shipment will be delivered in cooperation with the Egyptian Armed Forces to help India face the pandemic amid a surge in cases and deaths, the ministry said.

This comes a day after Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi offered his condolences to India over its coronavirus deaths and affirmed Egypt's full solidarity with India's efforts to face the pandemic.

India, the world's second-most populous nation, has so far reported over 19.5 million coronavirus cases and more than 215,000 deaths since the pandemic started.

The Asian country, which suffering from a second coronavirus wave, recorded 402,110 new cases on Friday, the country’s highest daily count, and 3,552 deaths.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Egypt has sent medical aid to several countries, including China and Italy as well as a number of Arab and African nations.

Egypt is also suffering from a surge in cases and deaths amid a third wave.

Egypt has reported 227,552 infections and 13,339 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
