Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir said on Wednesday that Egypt has received the ninth air-conditioned train for Cairo’s underground metro in accordance with a contract with Hyundai Rotem.
Under the deal, the South Korean company will manufacture 32 air-conditioned trains for Cairo’s third underground metro line.
The company will also be in charge of maintaining the trains for eight years, according to a statement by the transport ministry.
The minister added that Egypt has also received components for the second of the 10 trains that will be assembled locally by a factory owned by the Arab Organisation of Industrialisation.
Egypt has also received the first of six trains for the second metro line under a contract with Hyundai Rotem.
